How to Furnish your Changing Room
It's time for New Year’s resolutions, the busiest time for gyms! With the right furnishings you can do more than you might think to help motivate your visitors. Well-lit areas and good acoustics are some of the things that help to increase both our energy and motivation. Read on for some great interior design tips!
Light, sound and optimal use of the surfaces are three things that can make a big difference when it comes to enjoying time in the gym. Some like to work in peace and quiet, whilst others happily listen to music, watch TV or talk with a friend.
A quiet gym
To reduce noise at the gym it’s a good idea to equip televisions and music stations with headphones. The general hum of the machines and people can be alleviated with the help of fabrics and acoustic panels on the walls. Using a thicker carpet in the areas with the most footfall also helps to dampen noise. While rubber matting is great for areas where heavy weights are used.
Smart storage solutions for equipment
Keeping workout areas clear of gear can be tricky. Ropes and exercise mats can quickly and easily clutter up workout areas, but can just as easily be kept in order with the use of smart storage solutions such as hooks, tool boards and rails. A tidy room is automatically more spacious and quieter be in. PO Osbeck works as a personal trainer, coach and runs the company Magnify. He hints that bright colours can have a positive effect on us in the gym. "We know that when there is light, you feel more energised. Fresh colours make us more alert. Using this knowledge to your advantage can help avoid that feeling of being in a cellar," he says. PO also suggests the use of mirrors. Mirrors allow you to watch your form and ensures that you are working out in the proper fashion. Additionally, the mirrors reflect light around the room contributing to an airy feel.
Don’t forget the changing room
It is important to consider the effect that the locker room has on gym goers, before and after their workout. It’s a preparation space for the workout ahead and so it should energise and motivate visitors. It is also a place to relax and get clean after a hard workout. Again, it is good to strive for a soundproof environment and to work with the right floor mats that are adapted to the environment. In order to maximise the effectiveness of your storage system it is important to remember that not everybody requires a full sized locker. Some people simply require a small compartment locker to store their keys or mobile in, whilst other people need full length lockers to store bags and coats/suits in. Customise the choice of storage solution to the activity in the premises.
