Tips from a professional organiser - How to optimise your office desk storage
Do you need a shelf or drawer to attach under your desk for storage, a cable channel for cords that get in the way, or a lamp that takes up less space? In our wide range of products, we have many practical solutions that minimize clutter and maximize your workspace - all so you can optimise your desk and make the most of your space! We asked a professional organiser to give her best tips!
Clearing the clutter and keeping your desk completely clean and tidy is something that concerns and affects everyone in the workplace. Additionally, keeping things and tidy can reduce stress. Nina Strandberg, a professional organizer, also recommends desk accessories that contribute to creating a more pleasant and creative work environment.
Keeping things organised and decluttered in the long run simplifies and streamlines work. A desk in chaos, with papers, folders, and cords in a single mess, can also cause stress and is not representative of the company during customer visits.
Especially in a shared office space, it is important that everyone respect the communal environment, both colleagues and clients, keep things clean and tidy and keep documents and other items on their desk in order, says Nina Strandberg, a professional organiser and founder of the company iOrdning Stockholm.
Here are eight products for a more optimised desk
Mount a desk drawer under the desk: A low desk drawer doesn't steal legroom and is a space-saving alternative to having a cabinet standing on the floor under the desk. These drawers are perfect for storing things that you want close at hand while you work, such as notepads, pens, calculators, and more.
Choose a desk screen with room for upgrades: Does your laptop or computer screen take up a lot of space on the desk? A desk screen can be equipped with accessories and mounts so that allow you to get your computer, papers, and more off the workspace. A monitor arm that clamps onto the desk is also a good space-saving alternative.
Use the desk screen as a bulletin board:Fabric-covered desk screens and partitions are often pinnable. This is perfect for hanging up to-do lists and notes instead of having them lying on your workspace!
Mount a desk lamp directly on the desk's edge: A lamp with a clamp or vice mount can be attached to the edge of the desktop, and you don't have to have a lamp base that takes up space on your workspace. Some desk lamps come with both a desk mount and a base so you can choose a solution according to your needs.
Place self-adhesive cable holders: Small cable holders that you attach to the desktop or other smooth surfaces are excellent for things like mobile chargers, headphones, and more. The cable holders hold the cords in place so they don't fall on the floor or tangle every time you disconnect your technical devices.
Consider a computer holder: If you have a desktop computer, a CPU holder under the desktop is a very functional accessory for your desk. The computer doesn't need to take up desktop space or accumulate dust, contributing to cable clutter on the floor.
If you store a lot of papers on your desk, a multi-compartment vertical form holder is the way to go. Many form holders can be stacked on top of each other so you can get storage that suits your needs. Label each compartment to make it easier to sort and keep track of important documents.
Remember, keeping things neat on the desk is also a workplace responsibility, because an untidy desk is difficult to keep clean, it collects dust, and affects allergies of coworkers.
Nina Strandberg also thinks that there must be a certain amount of space for "personal freedom" on the desk. Absolutely, a small flower vase or a nice pen holder breaks the pattern, creates a pleasant atmosphere, and adds a personal touch. Greenery works as a stress reliever, so a potted plant is not a bad idea.
